AUTHORITY
The roots of the 461st Field Maintenance Squadron were traced way back in the 70’s during the height of secessionist movement in the southern part of the country. Pursuant to General Order Nr 1, Headquarters 15th Strike Wing, PAF dated 01 July 1974, the 18th Field Maintenance Squadron was renamed as 21st Field Maintenance Squadron (FMS). MAJOR SALVADOR CERENO PAF headed the unit with just Eight (8) Enlisted Personnel under his command.
On 01 July 1987, 21st FMS was renamed to 21st Field and Depot Maintenance Squadron (FDMS), which was at that time under the command of LTC TORCUATO TANEO PAF. However, on 21 August 1990, 21st FDMS was again re-designated as 21st Aircraft Maintenance Center (AMC).
Changes were again made on 06 May 1992. The 21st AMC was re-designated as 21st Field Maintenance Squadron (FMS). This however became short-lived because after only two months of existence, it was immediately followed by another re-designation. Finally on 16 July 1992, pursuant to General Order
Nr 102 Headquarters 15th
Strike Wing, 21st FMS was re-designated as 461st FIELD MAINTENANCE SQUADRON. It was placed under the supervision and control of the 460th Maintenance and Supply Group as one of its operating Squadron.
Nevertheless, after so many changes and re-designations, the same unit remained in-charge of all higher levels of maintenance of the Wing. It continued to serve and uplift the standard of safety, keeping the maintenance reliability of the 15th Strike Wing’s air assets and associated equipment to its best quality.
